When you move into a new home or apartment, you are going to need to stock up on the bare essential on the first night of your arrival.
Those items that you will need will be for the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and other essential items.


If you returning home after college, moving jobs or it are your first time getting a new place, then having a list or an itinerary will make things run a lot more smoothly.



If you can't focus in the morning without a cup of coffee or you love a hot shower upon awakening, then you are going to need to have these items on hand the first time you sleep at a new place.


If that's the case, then you are going to need to ensure that you bring these items in your overnight bag to your new place.

1. Make a Checklist
The first thing you do before packing is write a list of essential items that your new place needs. Then as you pack up, tick off the list the items you already have.



If you need to replace or buy new items, then make a note of these on the list by prioritizing them as essential or non-essential.

Moving to Your New Apartment
Leaving your current place and buying or renting a new place, then here are a few tips to follow to make your move as seamless as possible.
The more organized you are now the less hassle you will have unpacking on arrival at your new place.


Create as index list for each room
Organize boxes according to each rooms
Write out on each box what room it relates to
Have one box with all the first night essentials you will need for your new place




Some essential kitchen equipment you will need will be a kettle, a coffee maker, a toaster, cups, cutlery, and plates.

Moving From Your Old Home to a New Home
If you're moving from one city to another, or just the next town over, you might have to wait a day for you stuff to arrive.


If that's the case, then you are going to need to bring some essential items with you for the next day. .



This box should include mug plate, cutlery, towels, sheets, toiletry, and a change of clothes and food for your cupboard.


Make sure you pack everything securely in your car so it doesn't get damaged.

Unpacking Your Kitchen Items
When you arrive at your new place, you need to do the following things.

Unpack the box containing the stuff for each room.

Set up your coffee maker, toaster and the kettle on the counter.
Wash out all the kitchen cupboards and place your dishes and cups in them.
Put in your utensil holder and fill it up with your knives, forks and spoon in here for the time being.

If you're moving to a new town or city, then you might decide to pack the essential kitchen items you will need for a night or two into a box and then bring it with you in your car to your new place.



Tips: How to Get Your Deposit Back


If you get an apartment fully furnished with dishes and utensils, then you might consider putting these in a spare drawer in the kitchen or the utility room. Some landlords can factor in the condition of utensils when they start looking for ways to refuse you your deposit back.



Essential Bathroom Items
The next room you need to set up is the bathroom. The first night there will only require a few items while you wait for the rest of your stuff to be delivered.



You can purchase a lot of the items that you need from your local grocery store or bring them with you from your previous place

Hand wash
Shower gel

If you're travelling by plane, it might be cheaper to buy your bathroom supplies when you arrive at your location, especially if your moving company isn't arriving for a day or two.



If you are travelling by car, you might decide to bring some necessary items you need like bath towels, hand towels, face clothes, shower curtain and a shower mat bat so you can freshen up when you arrive.


You can purchase a toilet brush, a bathroom bin, and window blinds once you're settled in.

If you're sleeping on the floor, you might want a camping mat as most wooden floors are extremely hard.



It's better to be prepared and have the essential items you know you are going to need with you.



While most moving companies usually deliver within the time-frame outlined, if something goes wrong and you have to wait a few extra days, its better that you are prepared.

I think it's a great idea to make a list of things when you move.

The hubbers and I are already thinking of having a retirement home. Now might be a very good time to start making a list, you can never start too soon and lists are easily altered, after all.

Because moving is a physically demanding activity I would add deodorant to your bathroom "essential products" list. Also, bringing a radio that plays CDs or has a port to connect your iPod is a good idea since music contributes to the fun. ; ) ~ Voted up.
